Jamaica holds rates at 5.5%

Central bank expects headline and core inflation to breach upper range of its 4–6% target

The Bank of Jamaica has held its key policy rate at 5.5% for the third consecutive meeting.

In a statement on June 29, the bank’s monetary policy committee (MPC) said the environment underpinning the inflation outlook remained uncertain. “While there are discussions to end hostilities in the Middle East, a final resolution has not yet been achieved,” the MPC said. “International commodity prices are generally falling but remain elevated and volatile.” The committee added that financial conditions
