Norges Bank strikes hawkish tone with rates hold

Inflation “in line” with June projection and two cuts still on table for this year, central bank says

Norway’s central bank held its policy rate at 4.25% on August 13, citing the continued need to maintain a restrictive stance.

At a press conference, Norges Bank governor Ida Wolden Bache said the job of getting inflation under control had “not been fully completed”.

The bank had held rates for 18 months until June 19, when it enacted a surprise 25 basis point cut. At the time, Bache said Norges Bank would follow a “cautious normalisation” of the policy rate, hinting at “one or two” further rate
