Norges Bank signals September rate hike

Norweigan central bank stresses long period of low rates increases financial stability risks

Norges Bank signalled it is likely to increase interest rates for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic after its next policy meeting in September.

As widely expected, the Norwegian central bank maintained interest rates unchanged at 0% on August 19. “The committee judges that there is still a need for an expansionary monetary policy stance,” said governor Øystein Olsen. “At the same time, economic conditions are starting to normalise. This suggests that it will soon be appropriate
