BoJ’s June summary signals more tightening to come
Japanese board saw inflation quickening and said rates should be raised if this occurred
Further rate hikes by the Bank of Japan appear likely, according to a summary of opinions shared at its June 15–16 monetary policy meeting. However, some signs of the government’s preference for limited action on this front were also present at the meeting.
According to a summary of the meeting published today (June 24), BoJ board members shared the opinion that “price pass-throughs are highly likely to accelerate” because of increased import prices driven by the Iran war. The board members said
