BoE’s education programme taking off in UK schools, Broadbent says

More than a third of UK secondary schools have signed up to BoE’s education programme

Educating people about the economy helps them to take good decisions and helps central banks meet their mandates, Ben Broadbent said on July 3.

The Bank of England deputy governor said the scope for the central bank to hit its inflation target was greater if people were aware of the target and viewed it as “credible”. That was “more achievable” when people understood how the central bank worked, he added.

The BoE is seeking to address the UK population’s limited understanding of economics
