Slovak governor calls for further ECB rate hike in September

Kažimír says bank needs to pre-emptively tackle further inflationary effects of energy shock

The National Bank of Slovakia governor has said the European Central Bank needs to make another rate hike to prevent higher energy prices from having an impact on broader inflation.

In a blog post on July 27, Peter Kažimír writes that heightened inflation risks following renewed fighting between the US and Iran have pushed the ECB closer to its more “severe” scenario for the eurozone economy.

The ECB published its economic outlook following its June monetary policy meeting, in which it outlined
