St Louis Fed chief says independence remains critical

Musalem adds that there is little reason for further policy easing in near term

The president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis has emphasised the case for central bank independence and said there is little reason for any further easing of policy in the near term.

In an interview on January 13 with financial analytics provider MNI, Alberto Musalem said it had been shown time and time again that when central banks are allowed to operate without political interference, this leads to better outcomes on inflation and employment.

Asked how he viewed threats to independence
