Japanese PM says BoJ ‘halfway’ to achieving sustainable growth

Central bank says it does not comment on prime ministers’ statements

Japan’s prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, has said she hopes the country’s central bank “conducts appropriate monetary policy” to achieve its inflation target of 2%.

Reuters reported on November 4 that Takaichi had told parliament that Japan had yet to achieve sustainable inflation and growing wages. The prime minister said the country was still “halfway” towards achieving sustainable and stable price growth alongside increased wages.
