BIS Americas chief: region must stay alert to inflation risks

Tombini praises efforts to tackle inflation, while outlining monetary policy challenges

The Bank for International Settlements’ (BIS) chief representative for the Americas has said inflation still poses significant risks to the region, notwithstanding the timely and vigorous response to the problem from central banks.

Speaking at the International Monetary Fund regional conference at Costa Rica on July 29, Alexandre Tombini noted that long-term inflation expectations remained anchored and close to target levels. For countries that have experienced high inflation over recent decades
