Knot and Schnabel strike hawkish tone on ECB policy

Portuguese governor calls for end to 75bp hikes; Lagarde says inflation may still rise

Two European Central Bank policy-makers have warned against slowing the pace of monetary tightening policy, but a third has said this would be the best option.

Both ECB executive board member Isabel Schnabel and Netherlands Bank governor Klaas Knot gave hawkish speeches cautioning that the eurozone’s inflationary pressures remain high. But Portuguese governor Mário Centeno argued that the ECB should not carry out a third consecutive 75 basis point hike in December.
