Trinidad and Tobago authorities can improve policy co-ordination, researchers say

In a paper published by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, a team of researchers investigate the extent of co-ordination between monetary and fiscal policy in response to macroeconomic shocks, finding it has tended to be “weak”.

Avinash Ramlogan and Sandra Sookram aim to understand the interaction of monetary and fiscal policy in Trinidad and Tobago over the period from 1993 to 2016.

They find the behaviour of fiscal policy seems to be pro-cyclical in terms of GDP growth and inflation
