Bank of Canada to incorporate US tariffs in economic projections

Next monetary policy meeting could be affected by protectionism

The Bank of Canada is working to incorporate in its projections the effects of US tariffs on steel and aluminium, ahead of the next policy meeting on July 11, governor Stephen Poloz said in a speech on June 27.

On May 31, President Trump announced tariffs of 25% on steel, and 10% on aluminium imported from Canada and other allies, including the European Union and Japan. “We expect these issues to figure prominently in our upcoming deliberations,” Poloz said.
