Hélène Rey to head BIS monetary and economic department

Scholar of international monetary system will replace Hyun Song Shin later this year

Hélène Rey is to take over as the Bank for International Settlements’ top economist later this year, as Hyun Song Shin is set to retire.

The BIS said today (March 16) that Rey, a professor of economics at the London Business School, would begin a five-year term as economic adviser and head of the monetary and economic department (MED) on September 1. Shin will leave the BIS at the end of August after 12 years overseeing MED.
