Bank of Mauritius appoints its first female governor

Bank hopes to put turmoil behind it with appointment of IMF economist Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor

The Bank of Mauritius has appointed Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor as its first-ever female governor.

Her appointment was announced on September 25 in a statement from the office of the country’s president, Dharambeer Gokhool. Thakoor joins from the International Monetary Fund, where she worked as a senior economist in the Middle East and Central Asia department and as an adviser on the institution’s Mauritius-based Africa Training Institute.
