Karim Souaid to lead Lebanon’s central bank

Karim Souaid has been appointed as governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, the country’s council of ministers announced on March 27. Souaid was the candidate favoured by president Joseph Aoun. Media reported that prime minister Nawaf Salam’s preferred candidate was Jihad Azour, director of the International Monetary Fund’s Middle East and North Africa operations.
