Kevin Hassett says White House is studying whether president can fire Fed chair

The US administration “will continue to study” whether the president can fire Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, economic adviser to the White House Kevin Hassett said on April 18.

A case on whether the president can fire independent agents is currently before the Supreme Court.

Hassett previously argued firing Powell was illegal and would disrupt markets. He changed course in his latest statement, saying “the market is in a completely different place” and “the legal analysis” may have changed
