Pablo Hernández de Cos to be next BIS general manager

Agustín Carstens will leave in 2025 after leading transformation project

Pablo Hernández de Cos, former governor of the Bank of Spain and chair of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, will become the next general manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in 2025.

The BIS board, made up of 18 central bank governors and presidents, announced the appointment on November 11. François Villeroy de Galhau, chair of the board and governor of the Banque de France, described Hernández de Cos as a person of “remarkable calibre and global experience”.
