Clare Lombardelli appointed BoE deputy governor

OECD chief economist will take over UK central bank’s monetary policy portfolio

The Bank of England (BoE) announced today (February 29) that Clare Lombardelli would be joining as deputy governor for monetary policy.

Lombardelli is currently chief economist of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), a role she has held since May 2023. 

As deputy governor, Lombardelli will sit on the monetary policy and financial stability committees. She will also join the court of directors, the bank’s top oversight board.

It will fall to her to lead the BoE’s
