Trinidad and Tobago court rules governor’s dismissal illegal
Rambarran receives damages over 2015 firing but replacement will continue in office
The Trinidad and Tobago High Court has ruled that the government acted illegally when it dismissed central bank governor Jwala Rambarran in December 2015.
The court ruled that the finance minister acted “in clear breach of the law”. It said he had failed to disclose his intention to dismiss Rambarran and his reasons for doing so. It awarded damages to the former governor, but his replacement will continue in office.
