Norwegian government appoints former PM as governor
Critics say Nato head Stoltenberg is close to governing party but finance minister praises his "rare skills"
Norway’s social democratic government appointed Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg to a six-year term as Norges Bank’s governor today (February 4).
Stoltenberg will not take office until December, however, as his term at Nato does not expire until the end of September. Deputy governor Ida Wolden Bache will act as interim governor from March 1, when governor Øystein Olsen is due to leave office.
