Outgoing president appoints first woman after Mario Marcel leaves to join government

Chile’s departing president named Rosanna Costa as the new central bank governor, his office announced on February 3.

Costa will become the first female governor of the Central Bank of Chile after Sebastián Piñera made the appointment in his final weeks in office. 

The previous governor Mario Marcel resigned in late January to become finance minister under the incoming president Gabriel Boric, who takes office on March 11.
