People: ECB appoints head of climate change centre

Frankfurt: The European Central Bank has appointed Irene Heemskerk to lead its newly formed climate change centre.

Heemskerk will take up the new role on June 15, reporting directly to president Christine Lagarde, who has repeatedly emphasised the importance of tackling climate change risks.

Heemskerk is currently a sustainability fellow at the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation. She was previously adviser to the chair of the Network for Greening the Financial System, a
