Malta appoints finance minister as new governor

The Maltese government has appointed finance minister Edward Scicluna to replace central bank governor Mario Vella on January 1.

Prime minister Robert Abela announced the decision on Twitter on November 19. Vella, who has been governor since 2016, has been chosen to lead a new position monitoring Brexit’s impact on the Mediterranean economy.
