European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde has handed Isabel Schnabel a key role in monetary policy as part of the central bank’s renewed executive board.

On January 3, the ECB announced Schnabel’s portfolio includes market operations, research and statistics. This set of responsibilities is deemed by analysts as a good platform for her to become a key figure in monetary policy-making alongside chief economist Philip Lane.
