Governing council says it has “no objection” to Spanish candidate

Frankfurt: The European Central Bank’s governing council has confirmed it has “no objection” to the appointment of Luis de Guindos as its new vice-president, removing one of the few remaining hurdles in the former finance minister’s appointment process.

The council confirms in a short statement on March 7 that it views de Guindos as a “person of recognised standing and professional experience in monetary or banking matters”, as required by European treaties.
