Bank of Spain announces plans to upgrade governance

Reforms will improve communications, change internal regulation, bank says

The Bank of Spain on June 26 announced the results of a two-year project to examine ways of overhauling its governance, and improving its independence, transparency and accountability.

It said the reforms would be “grounded in a positive assessment of the current framework, which is characterised by a high perception of legitimacy and independence, and in the desirability of strengthening the institutional framework by adapting it to developments of recent years”. The bank said this meant it
