Republican senator Thom Tillis has told Kevin Warsh that he will vote to block his confirmation as Federal Reserve chair unless the Department of Justice (DoJ) abandons its criminal probe into the incumbent, Jerome Powell.

Tillis was among the members of the US Senate banking committee quizzing Warsh on April 21 as part of his confirmation process.

He maintained that the criminal investigation launched by the DoJ in January into cost overruns at the Fed’s headquarters was completely unjustified
