Warsh is an excellent pick for Fed chair, says Quarles

Former vice-chair believes Trump’s choice will make policy-makers feel heard

Randal Quarles, a former vice-chair of the US Federal Reserve, has told Central Banking that Kevin Warsh is an excellent choice to lead the institution.

Quarles, who was the Fed’s first vice-chair for supervision from 2017 to 2021, believes three principal elements are necessary for a Fed chair to succeed. The first is the ability to analyse decisions that both the board and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC)  have to take “in order to present the clearest practicable options for decision
