Experts decry ‘show trial’ of Fed chair

The criminal investigation into US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell is a politically motivated stunt with serious ramifications for the institution’s independence and financial stability, experts have told Central Banking.

“This is unprecedented and is yet another harassment effort of the Trump administration vis-à-vis the Fed, and especially chairman Powell,” says Lawrence J White, professor of economics at New York University.
