Central bank governors express ‘full solidarity’ with Powell

Lagarde and Bailey among signatories of statement in wake of Department of Justice investigation

The world’s leading central bank governors today (January 13) issued an unprecedented joint statement expressing their support for the US Federal Reserve’s embattled chair, Jerome Powell.

The 12 signatories – including European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde, Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey and Pablo Hernandez de Cos, general manager of the Bank for International Settlements – said they stood in “full solidarity” with Powell.
