Bessent includes former Lehman banker on Fed shortlist

Rick Rieder joins Bowman, Hassett, Waller and Warsh in running to replace Powell

Scott Bessent has narrowed down to five the number of candidates to replace Jerome Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve.

Speaking on Air Force One on October 27, the US Treasury Secretary said the list comprised current governors Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller; National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett; former Fed governor Kevin Warsh; and Rick Rieder, BlackRock’s chief investment officer of global fixed income.
