MNB files embezzlement charges against building developer

Ballooning building renovation costs prompted inquiry into friend of ex-governor’s son

Hungary’s central bank is looking to recoup some of the spiralling costs associated with renovating its head offices, taking legal action against a contractor.

The Central Bank of Hungary (MNB) announced it was filing charges against the firm that renovated the bank’s headquarters in a press release today (October 16). The bank wrote that it suspected the developer, Raw Development, of “embezzlement, negligence, fraud, and abuse of office related to the renovation of its headquarters in Szabadság
