Professor says five-year lag for publication of forecasts is ‘excessive’ in current context
Barry Eichengreen has said the US Federal Reserve should be more vocal and consider reorganising in the face of the threat to its independence from president Donald Trump’s administration.
In an article in The Economist’s Voice today (October 3), the economics and political science professor at the University of California, Berkeley, writes that the Fed could publish formal “post mortems” of its forecast performance to better explain its monetary policy decisions.
