Senate unlikely to replace Cook during litigation

Republicans on key committee will not consider nominees until court rules on legality of her dismissal

Two Republican members of the US Senate banking committee have said they will not consider any replacement for Lisa Cook until a court has ruled on whether president Donald Trump’s dismissal of the Federal Reserve governor is legal. 

Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina told reporters on September 3 that he was “not going to consider anybody until that’s been adjudicated”. 

Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota noted on the same day that Cook had not received due process and was still in her
