Senate committee backs Biden’s Fed nominees

Legislators unanimously back Jefferson, but most Republicans oppose Cook and Kugler

The US Senate banking committee approved three nominations to the Federal Reserve Board on July 12, including president Joe Biden’s vice-chair choice of Philip Jefferson.

The committee unanimously approved Jefferson, but was more divided on two candidates for seats on the Fed’s board of governors. The nominees are likely to be approved by a vote of the full senate, where Democrats hold a 51–49 advantage.

The 12 Democratic senators all voted for the nominees, Lisa Cook and Adriana Kugler. Ten
