BoF’s Rehn says government plans violate central bank independence

New Finnish prime minister says he will revisit policy statement

The Bank of Finland (BoF) warned incoming prime minister Petteri Orpo that some of his coalition’s policy commitments would infringe central bank independence.

In a letter to Orpo, governor Olli Rehn drew attention to two “problematic” statements in the new government’s coalition agreement. Orpo’s government takes office today (June 20), after parliament voted confidence in the four-party coalition.
