Taliban appoints new governor to Afghan central bank
Hidayatullah Badri was acting finance minister and previously ran Taliban’s finances
Afghanistan’s Taliban has appointed its acting finance minister as central bank governor, Reuters reported on March 22.
Hidayatullah Badri took over from Mohammad Idris, who had led Da Afghanistan Bank since the Taliban re-took power in August 2021. Badri has been the finance minister during the same period, which has seen Afghanistan suffer an economic and humanitarian crisis.
There does not appear to have been a formal announcement. It is unclear how Badri’s appointment will affect talks
