Nigerian lawyers call for security service to end pursuit of governor

Former governor was also arrested in case seen as politically motivated, senior lawyer says

Senior lawyers in Nigeria have called on the government to intervene in the security service’s attempt to arrest the central bank governor.

On December 9, a federal court in the capital Abuja rejected an arrest warrant for Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele issued by the Department of State Services. On December 29, another federal court ordered the DSS to stop attempting to arrest Emefiele on charges of financing terrorism and committing economic crimes.
