RBI strategy targets global rupee use

The Reserve Bank of India is pushing for greater global use of the rupee and Indian payment systems, as part of a new strategic plan published on December 30.

The plan includes two separate strategies to promote rupee internationalisation, through a review of foreign exchange regulations and by promoting the rupee’s use through the Asian Clearing Union.
