Fed chair makes case for renomination

Powell needs 50 votes and may need at least three Republicans to side with his reappointment

Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell was questioned by members of the US Senate banking committee on January 11, as part of his renomination process.

Powell will need at least 50 votes from US senators in order to serve a second term. In the event of a tie, vice-president Kamala Harris will cast the deciding vote.
