Christian Hawkesby will become deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand from January 2022, the central bank announced on October 6.

The RBNZ announced two days later that it will also change its senior management structure, increasing the number of senior managers from six to eight.

Hawkesby will succeed Geoff Bascand, whose departure the RBNZ announced in September. As deputy governor, Hawkesby will retain his responsibility for the central bank’s financial stability portfolio.
