Former Fed officials urge Senate to reject Shelton

Federal Reserve

A group of 44 former Federal Reserve officials has written to US senators urging them to reject Judy Shelton’s nomination for the Fed board.

Shelton would be “incapable” of leaving politics behind if she took on the role, the August 20 letter said. It included signatures from former vice-chair Alan Blinder and former Dallas Fed president Gary Stern.

Shelton’s views are “so extreme and ill-considered as to be an unnecessary distraction from the tasks at hand”, the former officials said.
