Powell meets Trump in the White House again

Fed makes one notable change to its statement, compared with February’s communication

Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell joined US president Donald Trump at the White House on November 18, a meeting that appears to have been impromptu.

The meeting, also attended by Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin, was arranged to discuss “the economy, growth, employment and inflation,” the Fed’s statement says.

The Fed released a similar statement earlier this year after Powell joined Trump for dinner, accompanied by Fed vice-chair Richard Clarida and Mnuchin.
