The Bank for International Settlements has announced several major appointments to lead its central bank groups.

Federal Reserve president Jerome Powell will take over from Bank of England governor Mark Carney on February 1 as head of two of the BIS’s key committees. Powell will head both the global economy meeting (Gem), and the economic consultative committee. Powell was appointed after the BIS consulted other Gem members, and will serve a three-year term in the post.
