Sri Lanka governor hits back at critics amid GDP muddle

Governor dismisses accusations deputy made mistakes in compiling GDP figures

The governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has hit back at critics of one of the organisation’s deputy governors, amid a row over GDP statistics.

“I want to formally place on record that [deputy governor Nandalal] Weerasinghe is an outstanding economist who has made a stellar contribution to the work of the bank during the two years I have spent in this position,” said governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy in a statement.
