Latvian police detain central bank governor on corruption charges
Rimšēvičs says charges are totally unfounded
Latvia’s anticorruption agency has detained the country’s central bank governor, Ilmārs Rimšēvičs, amid an investigation into possible bribe-taking by central bank officials.
The agency said today (February 19) that there is no connection between its action against the governor and money-laundering allegations against ABLV, one of Latvia’s largest banks.
