Ukrainian president nominates acting governor for permanent role

Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has nominated acting central bank governor Yakiv Smolii to assume the role on a permanent basis, according to locally based reporters. 

The move follows a prolonged and publicly unexplained delay in appointing a full-time successor to Valeria Gontareva, who left the governorship of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in May 2017. Smolii has served as interim head since then, having been appointed as deputy governor by Gontareva shortly after her appointment
