Irish central bank gets major budget increase

Commission members criticise bank’s handling of tracker mortgages

The Central Bank of Ireland will have a year-on-year budget increase of 17% in 2018, following a decision by its governing commission.

The commission agreed to the central bank’s request to increase its working budget to €294 million ($353 million). The main aim of the budget increase is to fund further increases in central bank staffing, according to minutes from the commission’s November 28 meeting, released on January 2.
