Succession in doubt at Malta's central bank as deputy withdraws from consideration
Serving governor will not be re-appointed, PM spokesman confirms
The deputy governor of the Central Bank of Malta has formally requested that he not be considered for the post of governor, which becomes vacant next month. A spokesman for the Maltese prime minister confirmed the request, adding the current governor will not be re-appointed to the role.
Deputy governor Alfred Mifsud had been widely reported in the Maltese media to be prime minister Joseph Muscat's choice to take over as governor on July 1. A spokesman from the prime minister's office confirmed
