High profits to cushion against bank losses – Danish central bank

Lenders in good position to deal with tariff turmoil, says National Bank of Denmark

Increased global uncertainty has made bank losses likelier, but lenders’ high profits will enable them to weather the likely storms, Denmark’s central bank has said.

In analysis published today (June 3), the National Bank of Denmark says that systemically important banks made Dkr66 billion ($10.07 billion) in pretax profits in 2024. This “peak” in lender profits, the bank says, was thanks to monetary easing having narrowed deposit margins.
